Today, Monday 4th August 2014, the Forces Recruitment Team will be joining The Royal British Legion ‘Lights Out’ Campaign...

It is hoped that millions of people across Britain will turn off all their lights and replace them with a single candle between 10pm and 11pm tonight to mark the 100th anniversary of the country entering the First World War. 

Hundreds of councils, iconic buildings, national organisations, including the BBC and Royal British Legion and places of worship are also expected to take part. 

The ‘Lights Out’ campaign has been organised by veterans' charity The Royal British Legion in a tribute to the remarks made by Sir Edward Grey, the foreign secretary in 1914, who said on the eve of the war: "The lamps are going out all over Europe and we will not see them lit again in our lifetime." 

The charity has called it, "a symbolic act of reflection and hope."
