AFF Begins New Spouse Employment Project
Thanks to receiving generous funding from LIBOR, The Army Families Federation (AFF) is delighted to announce a new Employment Research project in partnership with the Institute for Employment Research (IER) at the University of Warwick...
After a competitive tender process, AFF have chosen Warwick to conduct robust research into the real and perceived barriers to employment for Army families.
The project will involve conducting surveys and interviews with Army spouses and key stakeholders to find out more about the support needed to assist military families into fulfilling careers.
AFF will dig deep into the issues families are facing and hope to achieve positive change for those spouses, partners and dependants who want to work and improve their skills, but are disadvantaged due to military life.
Spousal employment has long been on AFF’s radar and they have worked hard to discover the main barriers that Army families face when trying to secure employment for the non-serving members.
While the evidence gained so far has been shared with chain of command and policy makers, AFF still believe there is more work to be done, and that a fresh approach is needed to dig deeper into this ongoing issue.
The research will involve looking at employment statistics and making comparisons with civilian counterparts to gain a better understanding of the similarities and difference, as well as surveying Army spouses.
Central to the success of this new work will be Army families themselves, for whom there will be opportunities to get involved in surveys, interviews and more.
