Construction To Begin At Catterick Under The Army Basing Programme

A £60m contract has been awarded to Galliford Try in for construction works at Marne and Bourlon Barracks in Catterick under the Army Basing Programme (ABP)...

The project includes the delivery of new Officers and Junior Ranks Single Living Accommodation (SLA), Senior Non Commissioned Officers Mess, Armoury, Squadron offices, Quartermaster Department, Multi-Use Games Area, hard standing and a considerable amount of refurbishment and reconfiguration works at both sites.

The provision of these new and upgraded facilities will allow additional units to be accommodated at the barracks now and in the future.

Marne Barracks is home to 5 Regiment Royal Artillery and 32 Engineer Regiment with the expected arrival of 21 Engineer Regiment in October 2017. This substantial investment will develop the site to accommodate three major units effectively under Army 2020 structures.

Bourlon Barracks will become home to 4 Infantry Brigade, 1 Military Intelligence Battalion, 1 Royal Military Police and HQ Catterick Garrison who will all be co-located within the refurbished Grade II listed Sandhurst Block. The future relocation of 4 Infantry Brigade to Bourlon Barracks will ensure they can consolidate and successfully deliver their required outputs.

The infrastructure investment, delivered through the Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO),  is part of the Army Basing Programme (ABP) which is providing the facilities the British Army needs to live, work and train in the UK as it returns from Germany, rebases across the UK and restructures to its future Army 2020 formations.

The construction works at both barracks are due to complete by October 2018 to produce modern facilities for the 21st Century.

Maj Andy Carnochan, ABP Requirements Manager said: “This is an important milestone to enable the timely delivery of infrastructure at Catterick. I very much look forward to working closely with Galliford Try to deliver this project.”

Mark Duddy, ABP Programme Director said: “This is a brilliant example of how we are investing in infrastructure across the UK. This clearly demonstrates DIO’s continued commitment to deliver first rate facilities for our armed forces in support of the Army Basing Programme and will ensure Catterick remains a strategic site for Defence for decades to come.”

Cliff Wheatley, Managing Director for Galliford Try North East and Yorkshire, said: “We are delighted to have been awarded this contract to redevelop the historic Marne and Bourlon Barracks at Catterick Garrison. Galliford Try has a proud track record in providing high-quality accommodation for our Service personnel, and we look forward to continuing that with our partners at DIO and the ABP.”
