Job Summary

As a fast growing company, our client is now looking to expand their team and recruit a Support Engineer to effectively provide support to their customers in areas such as roaming, security solutions and signals security. The Support Engineer will have a background in telecommunications with an emphasis in mobile communication. Due to the markets our client operates within (Mobile Telecom Systems) flexibility in your working hours is essential and you may be required to work periodically outside normal business hours (financial compensation will be provided). Detailed Job Description

As a fast growing company, our client is now looking to expand their team and recruit a Support Engineer to effectively provide support to their customers in areas such as roaming, security solutions and signals security. The Support Engineer will have a background in telecommunications with an emphasis in mobile communication.

The Company

Our client provides roaming value-added services, analytics and security solutions to mobile phone operators and signalling providers worldwide. They are tier 1 providers of roaming steering and are leaders in the signalling security market. Increasing interest from around the world in the company's products and services has led to the need for a Support Engineer to join this experienced, successful team.

The Role

During the learning phase, you will gain an understanding of the client's IN systems (Firewall & Value Added Service), its architecture and software applications to enable you to effectively test and support application software.

Once competent with the platform and software, you will progress to leading the testing of our client's applications once released from the Development Team.

Testing Activities

* Taking all application software from Development and subject that software to release, usability and failure mode testing.
* Develop a set of standard tests to increase the confidence level of the client's customers in the pre-release testing and software quality, including automation and testing frameworks.
* Extend the scope of the testing with revised or new tests as the software or customer requirements develop and change.
* Test the client's application software with Customer witness on their premises as part of the final stages of customer acceptance (this is normally performed remotely so the scope of travel is limited)

Support Activities

* From a Technical Support perspective, communicate with other Support & Development colleagues to explain issues, agree plans and manage responses and resolutions to customers.
* Proactive monitoring of systems as a preventative activity to reduce the volume of issues which actually arise.
* Provide, develop and enhance reports to management regarding support activity.

Knowledge, skills and qualifications required:

Technical Skills:

* CLI knowledge of Linux (Centos / Redhat)
* Strong Microsoft Office skills, particularly Word and Excel
* Relevant degree preferred (BSc Computing disciplines - MSc Telecommunications)
* Mobile Telecoms experience is useful and a knowledge of SS7 signalling desirable
* IP network experience (desirable)

Development Potential:

The Support Engineer role is expected to facilitate progression to Systems Engineering, Software Development or Senior Support as the skill level develops. As the client is a small but fast growing company, there is significant scope for personal development.

Salary: £30,000 - £35,000 (DOE)
