Job Summary

The HGV Technician will be required to carry out MOT preparation, preventative maintenance inspections and general repair work on a varied fleet of trucks and testable trailers, ensuring that they leave the workshop in a serviceable and roadworthy condition and keeping up-to-date with changes to the HGV Inspection Manual. The HGV Technician will be required to maintain above average MOT pass rates as well as ensuring productivity matches or exceeds agreed timescales. This HGV Technician must be able to carry out any other reasonable task which may arise from time to time and bring to the attention of the Contract Maintenance Manager any matter which could be detrimental to the wellbeing of the company.

Detailed Job Description

EB4538: HGV Technician

Salary: £ 35,000 to £ 37,440 DOE

Location: Slough

Position: Permanent

Hours: Monday to Friday - 45 hrs a week

The HGV Technician will be required to carry out MOT preparation, preventative maintenance inspections and general repair work on a varied fleet of trucks and testable trailers, ensuring that they leave the workshop in a serviceable and roadworthy condition and keeping up-to-date with changes to the HGV Inspection Manual. The HGV Technician will be required to maintain above average MOT pass rates as well as ensuring productivity matches or exceeds agreed timescales.

This HGV Technician must be able to carry out any other reasonable task which may arise from time to time and bring to the attention of the Contract Maintenance Manager any matter which could be detrimental to the wellbeing of the company.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

* Service, repair, MOT prep and PMI a mixed fleet of heavy commercial trucks and testable trailers
* Retain a good understanding and knowledge of DVSA regulations, including the HGV Inspection Manual
* Fault find, including with electronic diagnostic devices
* Weld and fabricate as required (after suitable training if required)
* Ensure consistent quality of work and complete to appropriate job timings
* Repair hydraulic drive systems where appropriate
* Carryout all repairs to the highest standards and complete job cards
* Complete all specific company and official paperwork
* Be a team player in maintaining all company equipment to the highest standards
* Identify mechanical and electronic faults and endeavour to find solutions to repair them
* Order correct parts as required to effect repairs
* Assist colleagues when required with heavy maintenance tasks
* Be aware of H&S regulations and risk assessments
* Keep a clean working area, avoid creating trip hazards and put tools away when not in use
* Advise the foreman of any improvements to enhance reliability and reduce costs
* Agree and be conversant with the Translux Skilled Workers Tools Policy

Qualifications / Experience:

* Experience working on HGVs and hold current equivalent qualifications
* Must be competent in Fault Finding and have high technical skills
* Must have very good time management skills
* Must be commercially aware
* Hold very good communications skills
