Q: How did your childhood prepare you for your job today?

A: When I was six years old, I met Burt Ward who played Robin in the ‘60s Batman series. I noticed he shaved his legs but nobody cared because he was Robin and that was the next coolest thing to being Batman. He didn’t care either because he was one of the most famous people on Earth. I learned then that we all have to pay a price in some way for success and success will always result in some people ridiculing you.

Q: What's your dream occupation -- the one job you'd love to have if you weren't doing what you're doing now?

A: Dream occupations include earning a more than a comfortable living from playing guitar in any way and writing successful film screenplays.

Q: Describe your first car and what you loved or hated most about it.

It was a Vauxhall hatchback owned previously by someone who shipped it from Gibraltar. It was a left-hand drive which was a pain in some ways but helpful in a city like Cambridge where seeing cyclists coming up the left-hand side was concerned.

Q: What are your hidden talents that most people don't know about?

A: I’m a skilled cartoonist, guitarist, learned to play bagpipes in a Pipes and Drums band in the cadet corps of a school in Canada, was taught to play banjo in one night by Dave from ‘Chas and Dave’ and am an experienced astrologer.

Q: How do your friends describe you?

A: Reliable. Forward-thinking. Loyal. The one propped against the bar in nightclubs or sat in the corner chatting at parties. Moody. Sometimes.

A: Meet Jeff Lynne of ELO, re-visit Sydney and visit Australia properly, spend a night in a haunted house or hotel and actually see or experience something, set a world record for something and have tea with Bruce Foxton of The Jam.
