Weatherford International Ltd
Weatherford International Ltd is one of the largest diversified upstream oilfield service companies in the world. The global network includes more than 46,000 people, 730 service bases, 87 manufacturing facilities and 16 technology and training centres in more than 100 countries.

Weatherford's products and services span the lifecycle of the well, including drilling, evaluation, completion, production and intervention. Today's Weatherford is a result of internal growth and innovation as well as the consolidation of more than 200 strategic acquisitions.

Weatherford has two key objectives - efficiency and productivity. The ultimate goal in both cases is to help reduce costs and increase well productivity. As well, Weatherford has created a more streamlined organisational structure to continue a push towards greater individual productivity levels through more intensive recruiting, training and retention.

This is a very exciting and challenging time to enter the oil and gas business. There are new frontiers to be explored, new worlds to conquer. Unique technologies are continually being developed to meet the extreme demands of finding and producing hydrocarbons located in ultra-deep, ultra-hot, ultra-harsh environments. Exploration and production efforts today are taking place at a furious pace.

But meeting the burgeoning world demand for energy will require a major expansion in the total number of exploration and production developments and the people to run them. The problem is, there are simply not enough petroleum engineers, geologists, geophysicists and other professionals to go around. And the shortage will grow even more acute as many seasoned professionals go into retirement. What this means is opportunity for you.

The Weatherford Technology and Training Centre is the hub of knowledge transfer within technical and non-technical disciplines for the oil and gas industry, training not only internal personnel but those individuals looking to develop their skills for career progression within the sector. Situated in Bridge of Don, Aberdeen, the facility has 2 full-sized, fully operational, land rigs, eleven classrooms, two fully equipped workshops and the latest drilling simulators. It is the largest of its kind in Europe. The aim of the Centre is to facilitate development at every level, with tailored career management and succession planning. The green belt location means the facility is within easy access of Aberdeen Airport as well as bus and rail links in the city centre.

The amount of delegates passing through the Centre has more than doubled between 2003 and 2006 with potential for around 12,000 by 2010 with the increased capacity from the £11 investment in extended facilities. Key Centre capabilities include IADC, IWCF and OPITO accredited courses in Well Control, Drilling, Well Intervention and Green-hand Roustabout.
