GAS

The centre conducts both initial and re-assessment ACS gas courses for existing and industry newcomers.

DOMESTIC ASSESSMENTS

Domestic ACS courses are run on a weekly basis for engineers who already have ACS certification and need to renew their qualifications. Courses in all domestic appliances such as central heating, fires, cookers, warm air, water heaters and meters can be gained here as well as change-over assessments from commercial to domestic.

COMMERCIAL ASSESSMENTS

Commercial ACS courses are run on a weekly basis and include initial and re-assessments in core commercial, change-over from domestic to commercial, catering, boosters, TPCP1 and TPCP1A, pipe installation over 35mm, radiant tubes and plaque heaters.

GAS INDUSTRY NEWCOMERS

NGST conducts courses for individuals with no experience of working in the gas industry who wish to become ACS qualified. All courses taken at the centre are recognised industry wide and are a pre-requisite to becoming corgi registered. Qualifications can be gained in as little as 14 weeks, possibly less depending on previous qualifications.

LPG

We run LPG courses for engineers wishing to work on LPG in permanent dwellings, leisure accommodation vehicles, residential park homes and boats, the change-over assessment from domestic to LPG is also available.

CPA1

This gas safety assessment is designed to test the gas safety competence of an operative in the work of carrying out combustion analysis required for commissioning at initial installation, re-commissioning after servicing, replacement of parts or the identification of full service requirements on gas fired appliances by practical and knowledge and understanding assessment. This assessment concentrates on gas appliance combustion performance and does not assess work involved in taking atmosphere readings of CO or CO2 levels in properties.

OTHER ONE DAY COURSES

Unvented Domestic Hot Water • Water Regulations • Energy Efficiency • Cavity Wall Insulation

OIL

NGST Newcastle is the only centre in the North East of England which runs OFTEC Oil approved courses. All engineers wanting to work on oil burning installation and appliances must be OFTEC registered. Training and assessment is available for the following:

OFT 101 - Servicing and fault finding for pressure jet appliances
OFT 102 - Servicing and fault finding for vaporising appliances
OFT 105e - Equipment installation
OFT 600a - Storage tank installation

In 2006, NGST Newcastle Ltd were awarded OFTEC Regional Centre of the year and then in 2007 one of our candidates received National Trainee of the year.

ELECTRICS

Within our centre we offer a Part P Electrics course this can be taken at 3 different levels:

1: LEVEL B: Within this category we normally include the sub categories for:

component exchange and
central heating systems.

They are optional. For example, a kitchen or bathroom fitter may not want central heating systems, so we would not cover it.

2: LEVEL B: plus lighting circuits
3: LEVEL A: This allows the tradesman to do limited additional electrical work such as install or exchange a consumer unit. You must hold level B plus lighting before you undertake level A.

LEVEL A will not allow the candidate to call him/herself an electrician and they would not be able to do other work such as periodic inspections.
